Year in Review

At the Cape Elizabeth OCNMS mooring in 42 meters of water (~47°N), the forecasts predicted the onset of hypoxic conditions (<2 mg oxygen / L) for more than 8 consecutive days beginning on July 2 (January forecast) and July 25 (April forecast). This location observed hypoxia beginning on July 19. Both forecasts predicted that this location would remain hypoxic, but only the January forecast predicted brief anoxia in mid-September. The observations indicate that this location remained hypoxic with a brief period of anoxia in mid-August.

Oxygen forecasts compared to the Cape Elizabeth 42-meter station observations.
