Year in Review

At the Cape Elizabeth OCNMS mooring in 42 meters of water (~47°N), the forecasts predicted the onset of hypoxic conditions (<2 mg oxygen / L) for more than 8 consecutive days beginning on June 30 (January forecast) and July 4 (April forecast). This location observed hypoxia beginning in mid-July. Both forecasts predicted that this location would remain hypoxic, but only the January forecast predicted brief anoxia in mid-September. The observations indicate that this location remained hypoxic but did not become anoxic.

Oxygen forecasts compared to the Cape Elizabeth 42m station observations.
